National Black Worker Center to Hold Voter Suppression Rally on September 12, 2020

RALEIGH, N.C. - Sept. 10, 2020 - The National Black Worker Center (NBWC), a non-profit dedicated to preventing racial discrimination in hiring and employment practices and policies, announces the installation of four voter suppression art installations in Raleigh-Durham, NC. The displays will consist of an educational billboard surrounded by hundreds of small flags. A rally at Russell Memorial CDC Church at 703 S Alston Avenue in Durham, NC will kick-off the launch of the installations.

The goal for the displays is to provide education to the Black community about overcoming obstacles intended to suppress their vote. In 2020, classic forms of voter suppression like gerrymandering and voter roll purges are now coupled with more overt actions like the slow-down at the U.S. Postal Service in order to make it more difficult for people of color to vote. "We want to educate our community so that they are not fearful to vote" states Tanya Wallace-Gobern, Executive Director of NBWC. "The art installations give voters concrete ways to protect their voting rights."
