Rebalancing Britain - Shaping the future

FORMBY, U.K. - Sept. 10, 2020 - In his most recent article David Fellows suggests that the UK Government is in danger of becoming confused by the background noise of its political and media opponents.

The three key challenges

To make progress it must now focus on levelling up, Brexit and the economic and social effects of Covid-19.

He believes that it is necessary to treat these three crucial issues as a whole. He suggests that these issues are immense, complex, interrelated and unavoidable. The consequent fiscal implications and overseas trade negotiations add to the burden of this core subject matter.

He reflects on the changes brought about by Covid -19 and the opportunities of Brexit although he considers that surrounded by economic difficulties the EU countries may not be able to devote sufficient time to developing an amicable trade agreement with the UK.

He suggests that the UK's housing system is broken and needs to be reformed as a contributing part of the solution to the three key issues. He asserts that by putting 'levelling up' for the regions at the heart of government policy all parts of the UK will gain, including its increasingly dysfunctional capital city.

Future domestic issues

He believes that there are many other important domestic issues for the Government to resolve but the centrality of the three key issues must be asserted. In doing this the PM must explain his intentions and his reasoning convincingly both to the people as a whole and to his parliamentary colleagues. It must be a bold yet feasible plan.

Time to explain the plan

He suggests that it is now time for public engagement, for shaping the future.
