WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - July 19, 2020 - [Winston Salem, NC]— Net Impact Triad unveils its new initiative, Connect the Dots, to combat hunger in Winston Salem, educate the region on the widespread effects of poverty, and unite the local community at a time when social injustice and economic uncertainty threaten to tear us apart.
Connect the Dots will reinvent Sam "The Dot Man" McMillan's home (701 NW Blvd.) into a sustainable community center that features health classes, art exhibits, and a community garden. With this initiative, Net Impact Triad seeks not only to revitalize a historic home, but also to energize the city by encouraging individuals to connect with each other in sustainable ways.
Connect the Dots will also partner with farms and corporate sponsors to build produce trailers that serve local food deserts. These produce yields will come from our community gardens, and the trailers will generate income from weekly trips to the local farmers' market. Each week, we will take the remaining fresh produce to designated food deserts. In this way, the produce trailers will become a recurring, generative, and sustainable food source for those who need it most.
NIT stands unequivocally against the racial and economic disparities which have been a reality in Winston Salem for generations. This initiative is the first step towards change, as it will provide job opportunities in a time of unprecedented unemployment and spearhead a self-sustaining center that benefits the Winston-Salem residents who most need our support. Will you join us? Whether you are an organization that can join our network of partners or a volunteer who can help us revitalize the community center, we need your help!
