Professional Interactive Webinar Series: TOD Placemaking & Station Area Planning

WASHINGTON - June 4, 2020 - This webinar will cover major trends in cities, rail investment, and station design. Ms. Swaim-Staley will be joined by award-winning architect Brian O'Looney who will present key principles and best practices of creating great places, lively districts, affordable communities, and a synergistic mix of uses. This will bring audience members up to speed on the many ways cities, planning agencies, and rail stations are encouraging quality, walkable, affordable mixed-use environments and great public spaces.

Ms. Swaim-Staley is President & CEO of Union Station Redevelopment Corporation – manager of Washington DC's iconic Union Station, one of the busiest transportation centers in the country - serving over 37 million visitors and passengers each year. She will discuss the current pandemic situation and how it has affected Union Station and rail ridership, as well as efforts to recover from this downturn. She will also discuss the $4 billion station expansion currently in the works that will bring the iconic Union Station into the 21st century.

Mr. O'Looney, Principal at Torti Gallas Architects in Washington DC, will give an update on the changes to city planning, and the trends towards increased walkable, rail-served communities. He serves as principal designer for many notable mixed-use, transit-oriented projects. He will share principles of project design and placemaking from his more than 20 years of experience planning and designing a variety of technically complex building types that seamlessly integrate a mix of uses.
