BROOKLYN, N.Y. - April 21, 2020 - Boober, the beloved marketplace for expectant and new parents, has successfully closed its pre-seed funding round.
The company was started by maternal health expert Jada Shapiro, who is also the founder of Birth Day Presence, New York's premier childbirth education and doula training center. Boober aims to transform maternal health outcomes and experiences by using technology to connect families quickly and easily with the in-person care they need. All boober services are available virtually during the COVID-19 pandemic. Non-clinical maternal care in the U.S. represents an $8 billion annual market opportunity, and with a global femtech/healthtech market predicted to exceed $54 billion by 2025, boober is now well poised to gain traction in one of the largest addressable markets in digital health.
"This funding round represents an important step in our mission to transform healthcare outcomes and experiences for expectant families and new parents," says Shapiro. "We're excited to be part of the fast-growing women's health movement, which is significantly underfunded, and we're thrilled to have so much early support from our investors."
The pre-seed round includes funding from founders of successful startups like Flexport, Thinx!, and A Touch of Modern, as well as doctors, midwives, maternal care providers, and happy customers. "This support will help us develop the technology we need to automate the transaction process, triple the amount of sales on the platform, and increase the number of services we provide," says Shapiro.
Shapiro founded the company in 2017 in response to the overwhelming number of urgent messages she was receiving from clients who were desperate to find lactation help. Her ability to provide them with immediate in-person support made a critical difference in their postpartum experience. When the pleas for help kept pouring in, she tapped into her professional network and began building boober.
Boober has already helped more than 3,500 families find expert lactation support and doula care. The company has received various accolades including "Best in Show" at The New York Baby Show, the largest expecting and new parent trade show in the country, and has racked up rave reviews on Yelp and Google. Last month, boober announced that it would be providing lactation services to its first corporate client, renowned advertising agency Wieden+Kennedy. Boober has also forged partnerships with major startups like One Medical, and national maternity and newborn stores like Happiest Baby, Hatch Collection and Monica & Andy.
