In GMP grade peptide synthesis, there are generally five steps, which are: Pre-GMP Development, GMP Production, Synthesis, Peptide Modification, and Quality Control. Each step is necessary so as to achieve the most desirable effects and bring about the most satisfactory products.
GMP, short for Good Manufacturing Practices, provide guidelines regarding minimum requirements that a manufacturer must meet to assure that their products are consistently high in quality. These guidelines are recommended by agencies that control the authorization and licensing of the manufacture and sale of a lot of products, such as cosmetics and pharmaceutical products. As always, the main purpose of GMP is to prevent harm from occurring to the end user.

In the synthesis period, different methods are used, including Large-Scale Liquid (Solution) Phase Peptide Synthesis (LPPS), Large-Scale Solid Phase Peptide Synthesis (SPPS) and Large-Scale Hybrid Fragment Synthesis. While in the peptide modification process, the following steps could be taken: acetylation, biotin, glycosylation, PEGylation and cyclization (disulfide bonds).
