SPRINGFIELD, N.J. - Feb. 28, 2020 - This educational initiative consists of a CME symposium, with enduring material, to take place during the 2019 ACP Internal Medicine Meeting in Philadelphia, PA. The agenda, developed in collaboration with Dr. James Underberg, addresses the following needs of internists: 1) to recognize that LDL-C remains a central focus of cardiovascular risk reduction, and statins remain the cornerstone of pharmacologic therapy for LDL-C reduction 2) to explain the clinical evidence (efficacy and safety) with nonstatin, LDL-C-lowering therapies (ezetimibe, PCSK9 inhibitors), 3) to identify appropriate patients for use of nonstatin therapies for LDL-C and ASCVD risk reduction, and 4) to identify barriers to PCSK9 inhibitor access and describe strategies to overcome these barriers. Symposium format will consist of brief presentations followed by panel discussions, as well as an interactive case presentation.
