NEW YORK - Feb. 28, 2020 - A sell-out event coming to Queens in March will harness virtual reality technology to create a shared, multi-sensory music experience for people with and without hearing.
Music: Not Impossible (M:NI) is a unique "haptic art experience" from Not Impossible Labs and Zappos that will feature music and art from makers in the Creator Network. The event will be held Saturday, March 7 from 7 to 11 p.m. at the Museum of the Moving Image (36-01 35th Ave.).
The term haptic refers to the sense of touch. M:NI is an organized attempt to create an integrated haptic art experience that allows people with and without the sense of hearing to enjoy live music together through Music: Not Impossible, a Vibrotextile:tm: wearable technology that translates sound onto the skin through vibration.
From musical performances to one-of-a-kind, experiential activations, the night will showcase the future of haptic art. At the event, distinguished multimedia artists, composers, engineers, developers, producers, makers and creative groups, deaf and hearing alike, from the Creator Network will showcase original artwork using the immersive M:NI technology. The elite group will use M:NI's vibrotactile creative platform to develop completely new sensory experiences for all participants.

Initially inspired by the deaf community, M:NI technology creates a unique, radically inclusive experience for all.
"The deaf community has always been able to enjoy music by feeling the vibrations of the music," said Daniel Belquer, creator of the M:NI devices. "Our technologies build on this premise by developing wearable devices that can send vibrations out and create a whole new way of experiencing music that can be shared by hundreds of people simultaneously. This is a whole new multi-sensory experience."
