LOS ANGELES - Feb. 28, 2020 - Nationwide-All Celebrating March 9 annually, National Urban Educator Day™ (NUED™) honors urban educators committed to students in high-need schools.
They work hard. They work long. They may even spend as much as or more time with kids as parents do. They are our educators! We love all educators who play a crucial role in kid's lives, but our urban educators play an extra special role. Often challenged to overcome economic, locale, stability, resource deficiency, and other conditions associated with high-need/high-risk schools, urban educators at such schools typically must go the extra mile to ensure students academic, social, behavioral, physiological needs of students are met.
According to Kincheloe (2010), "Urban schools do, however, share some unique physical and demographic characteristics that differentiate them from suburban and rural school districts. Unlike suburban and rural school districts, urban school districts operate in densely populated areas serving significantly more students. In comparison to suburban and rural districts, urban school districts are frequently marked by higher concentrations of poverty, greater racial and ethnic diversity, larger concentrations of immigrant populations and linguistic diversity, and more frequent rates of student mobility (RTI Action Network, 2020).
This takes true dedication to the students served, and dedicated urban educators deserve to be celebrated in there own right!!
National Urban Educator Day™ (NUED™) Founder and developer of its namesake NUED39™ App on Google Play Store says "These urban educators are they who stick it out when the going gets tough, exercise patience and impart wisdom concerning the additional challenge set they face, and consistently inspire hope in students amid what may seem to be insurmountable odds!"
