LOS ANGELES - Feb. 27, 2020 - With the culmination of Black History Month, Black School, will host its annual Immersive & Experiential Dinner and Show for children ages 12 and up, Saturday, February 29th, 6:30 pm at an exclusive location.
Now in its fourth year, the captivating experience is exploring "Creative Activism" through the legendary story of Fela Kuti, the king of AfroBeat. Part of Broadway's cast including the actor currently playing Fela, himself will be part of the performance. Be prepared to see a story taking place in the '60s where the diaspora was one. From Nigeria to America, Fela showcases the power of owning our voice for the sake of many once we tap into our own creative gifts. The event will feature Fela's music which is known for its intricate layers of different instruments. From percussion to wind instruments, we want to make sure our children get the full immersion during the dinner.
"We're excited to be hosting this event again this year," says Ms.Queenie Johnson, Co-Founder of Black School. "In the current social climate, it's important that our youth build connections with those that share their same social, historical and cultural identity. Black School is giving youth ownership of their true identity before slavery. We existed with rich cultural traditions and community before it was stripped away. We're shifting the paradigm to evoke a new conversation that's critical in the Black community."

ABOUT BLACK SCHOOL
Black School is a 6-month creative leadership program that explores identity and culture through the lens of African/Social psychology for students ages 12 - 19. The program was co-founded by Ms. Queenie Johnson, M.A., founder of the School for Brilliant Thinkers, LLC, and her students Devon Shepard, Jr., Lucky Kyles, Croix Kyles, Amir Epps, Ayanna Epps, K'mari Epps, and Nahzi Rue McCullough.
