SEATTLE - Feb. 5, 2020 - International Grief Institute, an educational consulting firm that provides professional training and resources to the bereavement industry, has announced the release of iCare™ Grief Support Group program, a new program for church communities.
Available to the public, the program equips anyone desiring to offer a Christ-centered grief support group with all the instructions and forms needed to lead 8 sessions.
Focused on spiritual, physical and emotional needs after loss, the program includes group discussion topics, Bible-based assignments, spiritual reading and journaling, self-caring plan, and more.
"The program contains everything needed for facilitators to lead participants on a gentle, supportive journey in an engaging group environment. It's designed for any church or community member who wants to help others through loss by providing comfort, understanding, and hope using Bible scriptures and shared experiences," states co-creator Linda Findlay.
Fostering a sense of belonging and reassurance, each session runs 90 minutes and the program ends with a candlelight ceremony. Sold in kits or individual books, facilitator manuals include full instructions and forms needed to organize and lead 8-week programs. Participant workbooks include Bible-based assignments, handouts and a self-help caring plan.
"The iCare™ program is carefully designed to incorporate thoughtful discussion topics centered around common challenges, with an emphasis on learning to find balance anchored by faith," states co-creator Lynda Cheldelin Fell. "It's a complete program that humanizes the loss experience from a Christian perspective."
Retired Texas A&M sociologist and police chaplain Rev. Roland H. Johnson III co-created the iCare™ Grief Support Group program with IGI partners Lynda Cheldelin Fell and Linda Findlay. Program materials are available at iCareGriefSupport.com/supportgroups.
