SEEKONK, Mass. - Feb. 5, 2020 - Deborah Kesten, MPH, Founder of Whole Person Integrative Eating® (WPIE), has teamed up with the American Academy of Sports Dietitians and Nutritionists (AASDN) to provide the Foundations of Whole Person Integrative Eating Certification Course, a new training program for Certified Health Professionals.
For more than 25 years, nutrition researcher Deborah Kesten, MPH and behavioral scientist Larry Scherwitz have conducted research showing that food has a powerful influence on physical, emotional, spiritual, and social well-being (ergo, "whole person" integrative eating) and in turn, overeating, overweight, and obesity. By addressing the underlying and multidimensional "whole person" causes of what (food choices) and how (eating behaviors) we eat, the Foundations of Whole Person Integrative Eating® Certification Course brings evidence-based, scientifically sound knowledge and practical strategies to treat the root causes of overeating, overweight, and obesity.
"At AASDN, we believe that nutrition is at the core of our overall health and well-being. The Whole Person Integrative Eating program is a powerful approach to lifestyle nutrition that will inspire clients and guide them to optimum health," said Greg Salgueiro, MS, RD, LDN, President of AASDN.
The course is comprised of 20 modules, each designed to create behavior change. Specifically, the modules provide:
An overview of the scientific basis and principles of Whole Person Integrative Eating;
An understanding of the effects of biological, psychological, spiritual, and social nourishment on overeating, weight, and well-being;
Skills to work with clients and patients to develop and implement behavior-based action plans for implementing Whole Person Integrative Eating in both personal and clinical settings.
Course enrollment opens February 5, 2020. Course enrollment opens February 5, 2020. In honor of National Nutrition Month in March, the course fee is currently discounted 25%.
