The Black Rebirth Collective to Host Star-Studded Fundraiser to Expand L.A.'s Theatrical Landscape

LOS ANGELES - Dec. 21, 2019 - The Black Rebirth Collective (BRC) will host its first annual fundraiser, Reaching Higher and Higher, on January 18, 2020, from 6:30 pm to 11:00 pm, at the Nate Holden Performing Arts Center, in Los Angeles. The charitable event will include red carpet arrivals, a silent auction, a cocktail reception, and will feature Broadway's award-winning actor/musician Chester Gregory as he performs "The Eve of Jackie."

Tickets are now available online at thebrcollective.org.

"We are extremely excited! This fundraiser will make it possible for the BRC to fulfill its 2020-2021 mission which is to connect, nurture and support actors as they enter the creative process through training, readings, and productions," says BRC's Founder and Artistic Director Kimberly Hébert, who is best known for her starring role on HBO's "Vice Principals."

"We value the amazing support from the Los Angeles community and theatrical community as we spread our wings and BRC takes flight."

"Hébert and I have had numerous conversations around the need for more agency of the Black voice in our narratives. I am so proud to support her and the BRC as they break new ground on the L.A. theatre scene," says Sterling K. Brown, 2017 Emmy winner, Lead Actor in a Drama Series, "This Is Us," and BRC advisory board member.

The evening's main feature, "The Eve of Jackie," brings tribute to the legendary performer known as "Mr. Excitement," Jackie Wilson. Attendees will go on a musical journey capturing the essence of Wilson's signature choreography, spirit, and inexhaustible energy.

"The Eve of Jackie" transports the audience back into the groove of the '60s and examines Wilson's life and passion for music, as well as the possible exploitation of his music. The production is set during Wilson's final complete performance on September 28, 1975, the day before he collapsed live on stage. A post-show mixer will follow.
