Messiah was presented at Bethel Congregational Church as an annual event by Earle Blakeslee and the Foothill Oratorio Society, from 1945 - 1959, at which time the event had become so popular it was moved the Gardiner Spring Auditorium. The last performance was in 1970. In December of 2017, after 47 years, the Southland Symphony Orchestra and Chorus finally brought Messiah home to Bethel.

The event was such a resounding success, the SSO and C is delighted to make "Messiah" an annual event - something to look forward to every season!

About the Southland Symphony Orchestra & Chorus:
The Southland Symphony presented its first concert in Ontario on Sunday, December 11, 2011. The orchestra's founder and director, Dr. Sylvia Lee Mann, saw a need and an opportunity to bring symphonic music to the larger Ontario Community, a community which was already embracing arts and culture. Since that first concert, we have presented many free, full-orchestra concerts for this community. Our Symphony Chorus joined the SSO family in 2016, rapidly earning a nationwide reputation of excellence, and was one of the outstanding choruses featured in Distinguished Concerts International's 2018 Presidents' Day Concert presentation of the Mozart "Requiem". DCINY has extended an open invitation to the chorus to return. The SSO has presented internationally renowned soloists from all over the globe, performing music of the greatest composers of the past and the present. The SSO a non-profit organization, and needs your support to continue presenting these world-class quality concerts!
