KIEV, Ukraine - Nov. 5, 2019 - Seems like today everyone fights against plastic waste. However, it is always not enough. Yearly, the plastic production reaches the volume of over 300 million tons. While by 2050, the world's ocean will have more plastic than fish. A young multinational team named Prostokava looked at this as a challenge. Now, they claim to have a solution for the take-away coffee cups waste.
"We realized that the best solution already exists. It is as simple as a reusable cup. Our question was - how to encourage people to opt for it? After weeks of research and discussions, we knew that the best solution was a digital solution," explains the co-founder of the project Joel.
That was the first step to develop the application that will be available in February 2020. The idea is simple. Anyone who registers on the platform gets a reusable cup free of charge. In addition, by inviting friends, the user gets an ecological gift, while the creators of the platform donate money to a worldwide organization that rids oceans of plastic.
Now, the project has launched on Kickstarter to cover the set-up costs. However, as being close to non-lucrative, it still needs financing in the future. The founders have previously collaborated on more than 50 startups, so they know how to keep on track.
"We are not just dreamers; we have a business mindset to make this initiative work. Our source of revenue will come from our partners that produce ecological goods. They get access to their direct target. Our clients receive the best offers, while Prostokava generates revenue to manufacture more reusable cups and donate more," clarifies the co-founder.
Besides just being complimentary, the reusable cup offered by the startup is unique. It is fully produced out of recycled materials. The cup is hand-painted by young artists what makes it personalized while saving the world's resources and introducing talented artists to the world.
In the first year, this application can reduce the single-use cups waste by 30 million pieces with 80,000 users only. By 2024, it can prevent the use of 1 BILLION disposable cups yearly.
The project is a creation of a small multinational team. The combination of different cultures helped creators to find the most complete solution for this complex problem.
The further development of the project is the construction of a brand's base." Staying online means being distant, but we want to be closer to our community." That's how Prostokava explains the decision of going offline. The building of the Base is energetically self-sufficient. This Space will promote sustainable values and coffee culture.
