Emil Cioran, one of Jose's literary heroes, was also a self professed joker who's work has been noted for its pervasive philosophical pessimism, and frequently engages with issues of suffering, decay, and nihilism. "Emil Cioran keeps me honest and motivated when I'm feeling down", Jose stated while drinking a shot of wheatgrass. "When one of my op-ed submission is rejected by the likes of the New York Times, I turn to a Cioran quote ("Knowledge is the plague of life, and consciousness, an open wound in its heart"), to power through. proclaimed Mr Franco. Cioran, the son of a Greek orthodox priest, wrote "On The Heights Of Despair" in which he claimed writing saved him from killing himself. Jose added, "I've adopted a process that enables me to embrace the discomfort of dark thoughts. I try not to place expectations on anything or anybody when I share love, kindness and encourage mindfulness. I've learned to embrace my insignificance in times my writings go unnoticed, unheard, ignored and unvalidated." Jose Franco's wife of twenty-two years thinks silence is scarce and rare and wants Jose to deliberately keep himself out of the conversation and subsist without its validation. Mrs. Franco often says, "Silence is the respite of the confident and the strong."
