October 16, 2019 - Matrix New World Engineering (Matrix) is pleased to announce that The Arizona Hydrological Society (AHS) presented its 2019 Lifetime Achievement Award to Principal Hydrogeologist, William Greenslade PE, RG, CPG. Mr. Greenslade received the award, which honors individuals who have contributed to the AHS or to the Science of Hydrology within Arizona and/or who have received national recognition for their contributions in the field, at the 32nd annual AHS Symposium in front of numerous colleagues and friends.
With more than 50 years of experience on hydrologic and environmental projects in Arizona and the southwest, Mr. Greenslade’s professional accomplishments include conducting in-depth studies of the relationship between groundwater pumping and baseflow in many Arizona stream / river systems, including the Little Colorado, Verde, Salt, River, Gila, Santa Cruz, and San Pedro Rivers, as well as tributary creeks. Recently, he developed a groundwater flow model for the Big Chino Valley to support an application for modifying the City of Prescott’s Designation of Assured Water Supply (DAWS), successfully defending the model in appeals court.
Mr. Greenslade has also assisted Native American tribes with water supply studies and water rights disputes. Among these cases are the Northern Arizona Indian Water Rights Settlement Agreement to resolve claims that the Navajo Nation and Hopi Tribe may have to the Little Colorado River and to surface water and groundwater in the LCR watershed. He has also provided testimony on ground/surface water interrelationships in central Arizona alluvial basins for the Gila River adjudication proceedings. Through his previous experiences and his work with Matrix, Mr. Greenslade has assisted clients in meeting their water supply and environmental needs on a variety of interesting and challenging projects.
Jayne Warne PE, President, states, “We are so proud of Bill and all he has accomplished. His dedication to his work and research makes him an inspiration to all of us at Matrix and throughout the engineering world.”
A Professional Engineer and Registered Geologist, Mr. Greenslade completed six years of service as Geologist on the Arizona State Board of Technical Registration. His technical professional accomplishments include geologic and hydrologic characterization of ground and surface water flow systems, design of water supply and recharge and recovery wells, analysis of contaminant migration and the development of remedial plans for contaminated soil and groundwater. He has conducted surface water and groundwater studies for water supply development, flood control, dewatering and water quality management. Mr. Greenslade understands the requirements of the Groundwater Management Act and is familiar with the Arizona Department of Water Resources (ADWR) rules and regulations.
William Greenslade is well-versed in Arizona Department of Environmental Quality regulations and various federal agencies including the U.S. EPA. He has conducted investigations for four Superfund sites in Arizona (19th Avenue Landfill, Motorola 52nd St., Unidynamics Goodyear (PGA-N), and Tucson International Airport). He has coordinated and directed very large projects involving project teams comprised of geologists, hydrologists, biologists, ecologists, engineers, meteorologists, and land-use experts. Earlier in his career, he directed and participated in more than 50 comprehensive geological and hydrological investigations at 18 nuclear power plant sites including the evaluation of the rate, direction and quantity of groundwater movement and the potential for transport of contaminants through aquifer systems.
Mr. Greenslade has participated in numerous mining related projects. These projects involve every aspect of mining including environmental compliance, mine dewatering, pit slope stability, storm water diversion and leachate collection systems for mines in Arizona and around the world.
A proud alumnus of the University of Nevada-Reno Mackay School of Mines, Mr. Greenslade was honored this year with the 2019 Friend of Mackay Award.
