OAKLAND, Calif. - Oct. 14, 2019 - Just two weeks ago, Renewal Mill announced the debut of its first ever allergen-filled baby food product with Square Baby Foods. This week, Renewal Mill is announcing an exciting collaboration with female-founded, sustainable superfood snacks brand, Pulp Pantry.
Each year, around 133 billion pounds of food goes to waste — 40% of which is fruits and vegetables. At the same time, 9 in 10 Americans do not get their daily servings of fruits, vegetables, and fiber. To Pulp Pantry and Renewal Mill, the solution is simple— why not create a snack that aims to not only keep good food out of landfills but also gives people more nutritious, family-friendly options for everyday snacking. Today, Pulp Pantry is launching their new vegetable-based tortilla chips, 'Pulp Chips," featuring Renewal Mill's organic okara flour as a hero ingredient.
Pulp Chips are made from 50% upcycled ingredients including juice pulp and okara flour sourced from Renewal Mill. For every pound of pulp upcycled, 38 gallons of water (used to grow our produce) are prevented from going to waste. Pulp Chips contain 4-5 times the fiber of your average tortilla chip, with fewer net carbs (which means keto-friendly!). The chips pack the same craveable crunch and flavor of your standard chips but are made without corn, potato, gluten, or grain-based ingredients. The snack will be launching in classic fan-favorite flavors like Barbecue, Jalapeño Lime, Salt & Vinegar, and Sea Salt.
"Kaitlin Mongentale (CEO of Pulp Pantry) is revolutionizing sustainable snacking, and when she needed a flour to use in her recipe, she reached out to Renewal Mill," said Renewal Mill CEO, Claire Schlemme. Mongentale and Schlemme had met years earlier when they spoke on a panel together at the Women in Green conference. "It's exciting to see a seed planted through a female networking event grow into helping launch one of the most innovative food products to be released this year."
'Pulp Chips' will be officially for sale on Friday,October 18th and will be available for online ordering at www.pulppantry.com starting Friday, October 11th.
