Jason Neu and Doug MacKenzie, the owners of SoulBoxer Cocktail Co., say that a Manhattan has been on their radar since they released their first category-smashing hit, the Brandy Old Fashioned, followed a year later by the Bourbon Old Fashioned.

"It's on the Mount Rushmore of classic cocktails," says Neu. "If we're going to be serious about making great classic cocktails, the Manhattan is an important fixture."

Before they could set out making the iconic Manhattan, they had to source the right ingredients: namely American rye whiskey, Spanish vermouth, and Angostura bitters.

"It's a two-part balancing act between the whiskey and vermouth," says MacKenzie. "We weren't going to just settle."
