ATLANTA - Aug. 16, 2019 - Bravo's Married To Medicine (https://www.bravotv.com/married-to-medicine)reality star, Dr. Jackie Walters, a physician and two-time breast cancer survivor, is hosting the 7thAnnual 50 Shades of Pink Fashion Show And Fundraiser (http://www.50shadesofpinkfoundation.org/)on Saturday, October 5.
The 50 Shades of Pink Foundation, founded by Dr. Walters, draws more than 300 influencers, civic leaders, thought leaders, dignitaries and politicians to Atlanta's City Hall Atrium for an elegant, upscale evening in support of breast cancer patients, advocacy and cure advancement. Dr. Walters founded the foundation in 2013 to support breast cancer warriors and their families.
In 2004, Dr. Walters found herself on the other side of the doctor's office when she received her first cancer diagnosis. She underwent a double mastectomy after her second diagnosis in 2008. "As I went through my treatment, I was heartbroken to see the spirits of other warriors broken. Their hope was low," says Walters. But as a physician myself, I knew that having a positive attitude impacts how you respond to the treatment," adds the OB-GYN.
While battling breast cancer herself, Dr. Walters began sending care packages to other patients and counseling them to provide spiritual support. To date, hundreds of cancer patients and survivors have benefited from her foundation. "When you look good you feel good," says Dr. Walters. "It was my desire to share that perspective with other warriors in this journey. Our goal is to treat the inner and outer beauty of breast cancer patients and survivors who undergo the difficult and painful treatment process," adds the author of Perfect Imperfections.
One in eight women will develop invasive breast cancer in her lifetime, a man's risk is roughly one in 883 according to 2019 statistics (http://www.breastcancer.org/). Early detection is key and Dr. Walters and her team are adamant about scheduling mammograms for women.
Just in time for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the 50 Shades of Pink fashion show will highlight breast cancer stories and celebrate women who have, and are currently battling, breast cancer. More than 30 models, who've been impacted by breast cancer, will grace the runway at 6 p.m. on October 5that City Hall.
