How To Look After Your Guests At Your Winter Wedding

BRISTOL, U.K. -- If you’re planning a wedding this winter then you should be thinking about your guests’ warmth and comfort as well as the food and entertainment.

Sunshine can’t be relied upon at the best of times in the UK but if you’re planning your winter wedding you may be thinking of how you can make the best of the strengths of the season with glittering winter themes, heavy and luxurious fabrics and accessories for the bride, and of course the added incentive and contrast of the honeymoon in the sun afterwards.

Although it is your special day one major element in its success is how your guests are treated. In the UK winter making sure your guests are as warm, dry and as comfortable as possible from the minute they arrive at the ceremony to the minute they leave the reception should therefore be a priority.

Plan for Success

Some steps you can take in the planning process to make sure this happens include making sure that adequate heating arrangements will be in place e.g. if the ceremony is in a church, and that not too much time will be taken for any photographs outside.

Clever and attractive use of lighting can enhance the feeling of warmth and comfort e.g. candles and fairy lights.

From Car to Venue

Make sure that the reception venue that you choose has car parking close to building, and make sure that all guests are given clear directions of how to reach the reception from the church. You may also want to make umbrellas available for guests at the church so that they can use them to go to and from their cars on the way to the reception.

If you are having a receiving line at your wedding reception make sure that this is indoors so that guests don’t have to queue outside in the rain, wind and cold.

Warm, Winter Menus

When it comes to the wedding catering your choice of menu is can be the perfect way to combat the effects of the weather on your guests.

If is particularly cold outside you may choose to greet guests at the reception with the option of having a warm mulled / spiced first drink instead of bubbly if they prefer.

Hot multi course meals with warm desserts are a popular winter option but in today’s winter weddings there is a huge amount of choice available in terms of different types of warm menus. Sue Roberts of West Country catering company Topline Catering explains:

“You don’t have to choose a traditional multi-course meal. Menus for today’s winter wedding could include tapas, big pan menus, hot fork buffets, Caribbean style BBQ, and of course hog roasts. There a so many different choices and combinations of warming menus. The food at a winter wedding is one thing that can be as individual as the couple themselves.”
