How To Write a Letter of Application for Teaching

The first step to getting any type of job is by sending in your resume accompanied by your letter of application. If you want to become a teacher, here are some things that you need to remember and follow while you are writing your letter of application.

Name the addressee. First of all, you need to make sure that you have found out the addressee for the school where you are planning on teaching. This is a clear sign that you have attention to details and that you are willing to take the extra step in order to get the name of the addressee. Besides, finding out the name of the addressee is not particularly difficult because you can simply call up the school and ask the secretary at the principal’s office to give you the name of the principal.
Concise writing. Next, you need to make sure that you write concisely when you are creating the letter of application. The letter of application is meant to give the employer a brief background of how you have found the job, who you are, and why you are fit for the job. There is no reason why you should add too many details or use too flowery words, which will make your letter of application less professional sounding. Try to not use words that are too obscure, even if you think that this makes you look smart. Remember, as a teacher you need to be able to express yourself in a clear manner that makes it easy for your students to understands you. Too highfalutin words will only lead to confusion, and is a trait that teachers don’t need.

Showcase your qualifications. In the application letter, you should showcase your most important qualifications for the job. This could be your educational attainment. If you have graduated with a degree in education, for instance, you can add this to your letter of application. This could also be your work experience. If, for instance, you have worked in the education sector in the past then you could add this to your application letter. Keep in mind, however, that you need to be concise and that you need to write down only the most important qualifications and achievements. The detailed list should be left for your resume.
Enthusiasm. When writing, also try to inject a little bit of enthusiasm about the job. Most principals are looking not just for technical qualifications, but also for enthusiasm in their teachers. Remember, an enthusiastic teacher is usually someone who does well in the classroom.
Double check your composition. Finally, make sure that you double check your letter of application before you send it. After all, you are applying for a teaching post and the last thing that you want in your application letter is a typographical or grammatical error. This matters a lot no matter what subject you plan on teaching.

With these steps in mind, you should be able to easily create your letter of application for a teaching post that you want.
