AI Today: Culture as a Catalyst and the Future of an Adaptive Workforce

NEW YORK - July 29, 2019 - Powering voice conversations between smart virtual agents and customers to solve real problems at scale is just one use of Artificial Intelligence. In today's episode of AI Today, we see companies use culture as a catalyst, and predict the future in the form of an adaptive workforce.

In our lead story, the amount of data available to organizations every day continues to proliferate at a staggering volume. But technologies such as analytics and artificial intelligence have the potential to help businesses make better use of these massive volumes of data.

In an age of collaboration between humans and machines -- what we call the "Age of With" -- organizations can gain advantage by designing systems in which humans and machines work together to improve the speed and quality of decision-making.

Thanks to our friends over at Deloitte we now have a better idea of what organizations are optimizing the opportunities available in the Age of With.

Here are some of their recommended steps to become an IDO:
• Hire or promote leaders with a strong orientation to analytics-based strategy
• Educate employees about the role of analytics in business decision-making
• Implement individual performance assessments
• Encourage leaders to model examples
• Make it easy for employees to act on data and analytics
• Use social proof to inspire action
• Reward risk-taking
• Know the limits of analytics

Meanwhile, the future of work isn't something that happens to you — it's something you create for your company and your own career.

Fortunately, experts at Forrester Research have sketched out a blueprint for how to build an "Adaptive Work.

"Adaptive enterprises win by identifying future opportunities and proactively reconfiguring themselves, including their business models, in the face of changing customer and market demands" say Forrester analysts. "Becoming an adaptive enterprise requires significant investments in technology transformation, in culture building, and in setting up structures and processes."

Customers are raising the bar of their demands, and they shift their preferences more frequently. Today, companies must build a delivery organization that's highly adaptive. And this new adaptive workforce taps into technology innovations, particularly AI and automation, to become more flexible, responsive, and productive and to support the broader adaptive enterprise strategy.

Forrester says the adaptive workforce has three key characteristics:
• Be Burstable!
• Decrease Hierarchies...
• Become Composable!

Going forward, organizations need to better optimize culture, leadership, and structures for AI and automation. The future of work involves human employees working side by side with robots, intelligent machines from AI, automation, and robotics.
