STOUGHTON, MA March 7 Advocating for Introverts: Using the Power of Humor to Engage Future Leaders. Amma Marfo, higher education professional, writer, and speaker, shares her research on what is lost in leadership and group dynamics when introversion and creativity are not considered contributing factors. Available for keynote speaker opportunities, workshops, and group trainings, Marfo seeks to educate organizations on how to cultivate working, learning, and living environments that allow divergent personalities to mutually thrive.
"I am such a strong believer in the power of humor to help people feel included, to make tough conversations easier, and to make life a little more fun - even when we least expect it, said Marfo. I advocate strongly for its use in interactions with friends and coworkers - and yes, a little bit in my talks." Introducing concepts of leadership, creativity, temperament, influence, and laughter to students and professionals, Marfos unique approach brings organizations together through humor and interactive activities.
In each session, audiences are challenged to reflect on their ideas through writing and drawing, interact with concepts and one another, and laugh as much as they learn. Marfo speaks to groups on numerous topics including temperament and group dynamics, building a culture of creativity, instilling humor into group norms, values-based leadership, and empowering activists.
According to Marfo, "The assets that come with creativity and introversion, and even humor are highly valuable at all levels of leadership, but mentioned sparingly. I'm on a mission to change that." Marfos goal is to inspire groups and organizations to create the best chance for universal success by emphasizing the assets introverted leaders can offer an organization.
Ammas got a wise beyond her years vibe around so many topics, especially on creativity, introversion, and humor, said Chris Conzen, Assistant Dean of Students, LIM College. Id trust Amma with any audience, as her versatility can reach both professional staff and students alike.
Marfo has worked with organizations and universities including the National Association of Campus Activities (NACA), Startup Institute, Colby College, University of Indianapolis, Newbury College, Rutgers University, UMass Amherst, and MCPHS University. She will be speaking at the NACA National Conference on February 18 through February 22, 2017.
