The "I Love Parakeets" website has now launched a store to satisfy its readers' love of all things parakeet. Whereas the website and Facebook page focus on cute and funny videos and stories, and information on parakeet care and training, the new store stocks everyday products featuring parakeets.
The products either display images of parakeets, including some clothing and puzzle items, or are shaped to resemble parakeets, seen mostly in homeware and toys. The store promises to be a one stop shop for gifts, with an ever-expanding range of products.
Both the website and the store focus on the type of parakeet known in Australia and the United Kingdom as a budgerigar, or budgie for short. They are smaller than other parakeet types, with distinctive markings and long tail feathers, and are treasured pets all over the world.
Judy Sharp, owner of "I Love Parakeets" said: "I noticed that the parakeet fanciers who spend time on our Facebook page and website like to have reminders of the little birds they care about, and decided to open a store where they could find parakeet-themed products all in the one place. These products are for the humans, not for their parakeets! We stock homeware (there's a parakeet-shaped teapot with mug set I particularly enjoy), toys, clothing, jewelry, stationery, and books on their care. We also carry popular children's books about parakeets."
"I Love Parakeets"'s owner goes on to say: "The aim of the new store is to enable our fans to find parakeet merchandise in one place and easily have it delivered to their door. It will also make gift-hunting for children and parakeet lovers easy and fast."
Some of the more unusual parakeet-themed items currently on the store include humorous signs for the home, cuddly parakeet-shaped cushions and toys, and even an Australian mint silver coin in the Birds of Australia series.
