Founder of SoapTastic Lush, Gabriela, embarked on a mission to create natural, nourishing cleansing products for the skin after experiencing dryness and reactions herself from off the shelf products, due to having sensitive skin. A range of spa quality products, using quality, natural ingredients and using environmentally responsible methods was created, and then tested on family and friends before becoming available to everyone via the online store. n addition to an array of handcrafted organic soaps, SoapTastic Lush makes lip balms, lotion bars, bath bombs, sugar scrubs, bath salts and more.
SoapTastic Lush experiences a high volume of repeat and word of mouth business, and in realising a demand in the handmade artisanal body soap and lotion products has now launched a series of soap making classes at its store-workshop in Fall River, Massachusetts. The soap making classes are available in three different methods: the cold press soap making method; the hot press soap making method; and the melt and pour glycerin soap method.
Students of SoapTastic Lush soap making classes will learn the use of traditional, natural soap making ingredients. They will learn safety measures of using sodium hydroxide, or lye, and how to store it, as well as how to use lye calculators for correct recipe-making quantities. Attendees will also learn how to work with oils and butters, how to scent soaps, using colors and herbs, how to cut and cure soaps, types of molds and wrapping of molds, where to purchase soap making supplies and other helpful soap making tips. Each attendee will have handmade soap to take home.
Other classes offered include one of the oldest forms of soap making, liquid castille soap making; environmentally friendly and free of harsh chemical cleansers. Students take home four products, including hand soap, shampoo, bubble bath and face cleanser as well as a recipe booklet with step by step instructions. An advanced soap making class is available that covers the addition of tussah silk fibers, which add a shiny appearance and increased lather and silk feel.
Soap swap classes for a maximum of five people are held, allowing everyone to swap pieces of their own handmade soaps to take home a variety, and soap making parties for up to 10 participants of a mix of adults and children are also available. Classes in bath and body products and lotions are available at SoapTastic Lush, that cover the differences between creams and lotions, creating stable emulsions by correct mixing of oil and water, use of oils, butters, humectants, emollients, thickeners and necessary preservatives for water based products.
Classes are held in the Thomas Street, Fall River, studio on Sundays from 9am 12pm or 1.30pm 4.30pm, or Mondays from 9am 12pm or 5pm 8pm. Students are asked to prepare for classe by bringing and apron, an old towel for insulating the soaps and a carry bag to transport them home in. Mandatory safety equipment is supplied in class.
