Book on Death-Planning in Singapore to be Launched on 26 March 2016

Death has always been a taboo subject in many conservative Asian societies, but that is set to change on 26 March 2016.

Four authors from three distinct fields have decided to publish a book about death, and how death is an event that should be talked about, and actively planned for.

The book, entitled €œLast Wishes: Financial Planning, Will Planning and Funeral Planning in Singapore€, covers everything one needs to know in order to plan for one's own death during the course of his or her lifetime.

The book, which is a joint effort by a financial planner, a lawyer and two funeral directors, will give a low-down on how one should proceed to grow one's assets during his or her lifetime, how to plan for its distribution when one is gone, and why and how one should arrange for his or her own funeral when one is very much alive and kicking.

Knowing how the public might have questions as to why this book is written, Alfred Chia €“ CEO of SingCapital Pte Ltd, an MAS-licenced financial advisory firm €“ has this to say:

€œDeath is a subject that most people prefer not to think about; but as an inevitable part of life, we should plan for it.€

€œIn my line of work as a Financial Consultant, I have helped clients plan their finances €“ allowing them to leave a greater legacy to their loved ones €“ and I have been there to follow through with their instructions when these clients pass on.€

€œI realised that we all have questions about how we should plan for our own passing, and how we can take care of our loved ones after we are gone.€

€œThis is very much the reason for this book.€

Discussing the idea with friends and colleagues, Chia realised that many had questions, but did not know who and how they should be looking for answers.

€œAs a Financial Consultant, my expertise is in planning one's legacy in terms of financial and estate planning. When it comes to Wills and planning for a funeral, I decided to turn to my partners and friends for their specialised expertise as well,€ Chia adds.

To give readers the best of all worlds, Chia approached lawyer and author, Rayney Wong, as well as two prominent funeral directors, Darren Cheng T K and Jenny Tay, to chip in for the book.

Where Wong was approached for his expertise in Will-drafting and the various laws affecting the estate of a deceased and its distribution, Cheng and Tay were roped in to give their inputs on burials, cremations and the different aspects of funeral arrangements.

€œThis book €“ which is really the first of its kind €“ is the culmination of our efforts at sharing and educating the Singaporean community about death, and how death €“ instead of being a taboo topic €“ should be a celebration of a life well-planned and well-lived,€ Chia adds.

Details about the Book Launch

The book launch will be held at the Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce & Industry at Hill Street, from 1.30 pm to 5 pm.

Attendees at the event would not only benefit from the sharing by the different authors, they would also be pleasantly surprised by how death €“ as an event €“ can in fact be a joyous occasion if properly planned for.
