Durango, Colo. (February 1, 2016) Tom Wishon Golf Technology, the golf industry's leading authority in clubfitting research and its most innovative golf club designer, has launched [Sterling Irons](http://wishongolf.com/designs/sets/sterling-irons-single-length-set/), a new technical breakthrough in single length set design that offers quantifiable game-improvement opportunities for all levels of golfers.
By making each iron in the set the same length, with the same shaft weight, same total weight, same grip weight, same head weight and same club balance point, each iron in the set is a perfect duplicate of every possible element that controls swing feel and swing repeatability.
Tom Wishon has engineered and designed golf clubs for more than 30 years, has written 10 award-winning books in the field, and is widely regarded the golf industry's most innovative and knowledgeable designer of premium woods, irons, wedges and shafts.
Irons made to different incremental lengths cannot achieve that level of swing feel matching, because every one of the just-mentioned club spec parameters is different in each iron. For the new Wishon-designed Sterling Single Length Ironscomprising the #5 through #9 irons, PW, GW and SWevery club in the set has every swing feel element duplicated in each club for better swing and shot consistency. Additionally, the set offers an optional #5 Hybrid for players who prefer a #5-hybrid over a #5-iron.
Single length clubs are not new to golfthey've been around since the 1980sbut they were under-marketed and never caught on because they were considered too radical compared to incremental length sets.
However, with the recent playing success of amateur sensation Bryson DeChambeauwho in 2015 became only the fifth player in history to win the NCAA Division 1 championship and the U.S. Amateur title in the same yearthere is soaring interest in single length irons. DeChambeau currently plays with custom designed and fitted single length clubs that are not being made available to the general public.
Single length irons offer the potential of better performance as a result of greater on-center shot consistency and swing tempo repeatability," explains Wishon, but the big pitfall with single length irons has always been inconsistent output and control of shot distance. Previous single length irons are known to rob the golfer of distance in the low loft irons and they hit the ball too far in the high loft irons/wedges, plus they compress the distance gap between the irons.
Sterling Irons have solved that problem," he declared.
According to Wishon, the secret to the Sterling Irons' potential game-changing performance lies in the following areas: First," says Wishon, the Sterling Irons are custom fit to golfers by independent custom clubmakers to not just have the same length, but the same shaft weight, same total weight, same grip weight, same head weight and the same balance point. That allows the golfer to execute shots with the same stance, the same ball position and the same swing plane, which all adds up to greater and more consistent swing repeatability.
Second, we chose a 36.5-inch shaft length, which is equivalent in length to an average #8 iron," he explained. I would wager that most players have better overall shot consistency with an #8 iron versus a longer length club like a #5, #6 or #7 iron. The Sterling single length is shorter than previous single length sets to deliver more shot consistency, especially with the low loft irons in the set.
But Wishon Golf didn't stop there.
To maximize a player's shot distance in the low loft irons at the shorter #8-iron length, Wishon Golf engineered Sterling club heads with game-specific high performance materials. Sterling's lower loft #5, #6 and #7 iron heads feature Wishon Golf's proprietary High COR face design, which effectively give back distance in these lower loft irons that ordinarily may have been lost because of using the #8 iron length for all the irons.
For the #8, #9, PW, GW and SW, we crafted the clubs from investment cast soft carbon steel and engineered them with 5-degree loft increments to ensure proper distance gaps. With the #8 iron length these high loft irons will not hit the ball too far, as what can happen when a #6 iron length is chosen for the single length," he explains.
Additionally, Wishon Golf makes available an optional Sterling hybrid iron that is specially designed for players who find it more difficult to consistently swing a lower-lofted #5 iron.
Put together as a full set, we feel the new Sterling Irons are exceptional clubs that will significantly improve a player's shot consistency, swing repeatability, on-center hit consistency, and which optimize distances exactly where they should be," he says.
Sterling Irons and all of Wishon Golf's high performance golf club designs are only custom fit to each individual golfer, and are available worldwide only through professional custom clubmakers.
