Model-Citizen.org Launches New Site to Fight Obesity

Website Aims to Provide Information on Healthy Habits for Weight Loss and Healthy Living

Chattanooga, TN (November 23, 2015) €“ Despite aggressive efforts by the US federal government, including campaigns led by First Lady Michelle Obama, obesity numbers among Americans remain on the rise. Of American adults, 38% are obese in 2014, compared to 35% in 2012.

"The numbers are certainly disheartening," says Aaron Appel, spokesperson for Model-Citizen.org. "It means all the efforts being done to fight obesity, both by the government and the private sector, are not enough to curb it."

With this concern in mind, Appel and his group has launched Model-Citizen.org, where Appel hopes the public will find more information that will push them to live healthily, not just to lose weight but to steer clear of diseases that could threaten their life.

According to Appel, while obesity is an illness in itself, it could also be seen as a sign that a person is not getting the nutrition, exercise and rest that they need. Appel claims that simple changes to one's lifestyle and sticking to those changes are enough to turn the tide against obesity. Finding access to good, nutritious yet affordable food is also a must for shedding the pounds.

"Sometimes it's a matter of access to food," says Appel. "Some homemakers find fresh food to be expensive, and so they rely on highly processed food or even fast food to fill them up. We all know that processed food has ingredients that contribute to obesity."

Appel recognizes that obesity will present problems not just to the individual but to the entire health care system if nothing is done to curb its growth.

"We all have to do our part," Appel says. "We're all going to suffer for it in the end if we don't."
