Prints Etc. Picture Framing Gallery is sharing with the public its historic 'custom framing services'. Now available at the historic Jackson Square of San Francisco, which fans and consumers within the home decor and art space should find particularly interesting.
Prints Etc. was founded by Lloyd Hightower, who is a founding member of the Professional Picture Framers Association (PPFA) which set the standard for museum quality framing around the world. Prints Etc opened in 1957 before the mass manufacturing of many styles of frame that are seen today. Prints Etc. has found vendors that could hand gild French style frames, and would cut and stain their moulding for clients. These standards are what makes Prints Etc what it is today.
The current owner takes great pride in not only the shop, but it's place in San Francisco's history and present. Prints Etc. Picture Framing Gallery is located in Jackson Square, in the Sherman's Bank building from 1852, dating back to the gold rush. Jackson Square has been a world class antique district for decades. Prints Etc has a great collection of old San Francisco maps and photos, so it is not only a great place to go for framing but to shop for unique prints and items. Prints Etc. has a shop where consumers can find the largest selection of vintage San Francisco postcards dating back to 1902 as well as other vintage San Francisco souvenirs. Prints Etc. has photos of the city from 1851 to present. As well as antique engravings from around the world.
Prints Etc would like to share that they never send out the artwork for framing. Sending out artwork is becoming an alarmingly standard practice in custom framing. Customers visit a shop and think that the artwork is all in the back with the precious artwork but in reality it's packed up and sent to a large frame shop that takes in artwork from many shops. This is bad for many reasons. No matter how insured a framer is, if there is an accident in transport, the artwork is damaged, in most cases, it cannot be replaced. Also, the sense of customer service is diminished. Whoever is cutting mats doesn't know the story of that piece or anything about the person that cares so much about it. At Prints Etc, artwork goes from the customer's hands to the framer and right back to the customer. In addition to framing artwork, Prints Etc. Supplies clients with custom sized mirrors and clients get to choose from the largest selection and variety of frames in the city. Clients can choose from ultra-modern steel designs to Louis XVI gilded frames.
The owner, Elizabeth Cologne has been in the framing business since 1979. Beginning in Southern California she owned a framing gallery and now in San Francisco she has operated Prints Etc for ten years, upholding the tradition of quality and integrity that got Prints Etc along for so many years.
