The most recent figures released by the UK's Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA), updated in December this year, show the downward trend in the pass rate of the UK theory test continues.
There is a marked difference between the pass rates of males and females, females consistently having the higher pass rate year on year, but the general decline is observable in both genders.
The theory test is on the contents of the highway code and is a prerequisite for anyone wishing to take the practical driving test in the United Kingdom.
The figures released from the DVSA begin in 2007 with a pass rate of 65%. But this shows a steady decline through to the current rate of 51%.
The BBC offers a number of possible reasons for the decline here: http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-29160052
