Nikkei Inc. and the Japan Environmental Management Association for Industry (JEMAI) will organize Eco-Products 2014, one of the largest environmental exhibitions in Japan, to be held at the Tokyo International Exhibition Center, Tokyo Big Sight on December 11 (Thu) -13 (Sat).
For the 16th event, “Eco-Products 2014,” approximately 740 companies and organizations are preparing booths with expectations of 175,000 visitors during the three days. This year’s theme is, “Discover Ideas to Change the Future!”. In the midst of global warming and its ill effects, this event will provide a venue to present plans, and to gather together to share information about the environment, such as the newest environmentally-minded products, environmental technologies, and lifestyle suggestions, in an effort to change the future in a positive direction.
This year’s exhibition will include a zone centered on the theme of energy, “Energy Innovation 2014.” Areas like the business-focused “Nippon Eco-Business” zone will be expanded, introducing visitors to regional environmental businesses and the policies and initiatives of municipal governments. “Energy Innovation 2014,” supported by the Tokyo Metropolitan government, will feature an exhibition of the environmentally-friendly, disaster resistant “low-carbon, distributed energy model.” In the “Nippon Eco-Business” zone, municipalities from across Japan will present their regional environmental initiatives and environmentally-friendly products, and discuss how they utilize resources and energy.
This year will see the introduction of the first “Bibosai – A house that survives with style” planning session, presenting visitors with ideas for coordinating four elements in their homes: disaster prevention, the environment, energy, and the interior.
On the “Business-stage”, noted economists and other specialists will explain the latest opinions from a variety of viewpoints, discussing solutions to the environmental problem, building a sustainable society, the latest developments in energy, and more.
Visitors will participate in brand new ways, too, learning about “ethical” fashion and products before making them in a workshop, and creating an environmental app while they exchange ideas in a “hackathon.”
The exhibition offers visitors eco-tours in addition to the workshops and displays, including one for overseas visitors to tour the exhibition hall in English and Korean. On the “Exhibition Hall Eco-Tours,” specialists in energy, local revitalization, raw materials, and other topics will speak in-depth about their field as they lead tours of the exhibition hall. Elementary and middle school students have the opportunity to learn about the 3Rs, preventing global warming, and other subjects, as they join the “Eco-Pro Eco-Kids Investigation Team.” They will visit three booths related to one of these themes, and their investigations culminate in a study project. There are even opportunities to tour Tokyo’s ongoing “Sea Forest” efforts to plant trees in reclaimed land constructed from waste and leftover construction soil, and a chance to ride in the latest eco-cars, traveling famous neighborhoods in an electric or fuel cell vehicle on the “Eco-Car Rides.”
