‘Carry Me Home’, the new, high-profile film from Writer/Producer Tim Chey, wrapped production this summer after the camera team visited several countries in six months.
“I wanted to create a film that brought back slave spirituals which is dying in this country,” says Chey. “What a better way than to show two redemptive stories centered around the Gospel spirituals, like Amazing Grace, City Called Heaven, Caanan Land, etc.”
One of the singers, Jubilant Sykes, a renowned black singer, plays the lead Ozias who brings historical character John Newton to Christ.
“Jubilant is an incredible, tour-de-force singer,” says Chey. “When I first heard his voice and ‘City Called Heaven’, I wanted to write his character into the John Newton story.”
John Newton, of course, is the slave trader who came to Christ in a storm and wrote “Amazing Grace”
It’s been a busy year for Chey who also wrote and directed ‘Final: The Rapture’ which had one of the highest per-screen averages in theaters in the nation and ‘Epic Journey’ which took him and his camera team to 29 countries documenting stories of people’s who’s lives were transformed through Christ.
