BEAUFORT, S.C. - March 10, 2021 - In celebration of Harriet Tubman Day – Melissa Whiteford St. Clair announces the release of her first book, Home Work A Collection of Poems Sparked by One White Woman's Journey on the Matter of Race.

Home Work A Collection of Poems Sparked by One White Woman's Journey on the Matter of Race will bring readers into the heart of the author's expedition into the study of racism and social justice electrified by Harriet Tubman's heroic flight to freedom.

Born into slavery, Harriet Tubman departed this life on March 10, 1913, in Auburn, New York thus March 10th is recognized as Harriet Tubman Day.

"This book is a compilation of poems written as a result of lessons and home work assignments while a participant in the course, On The Matter of Race: White People Committed to Beginning the Journey Together, Level 1," stated St. Clair. She continued,
"My mother reminded me I won entry into a published book of poetry as a young adult. Poetry writing was dormant until my first home work assignment by conflict resolution strategist, Lynne M. Hurdle Price for her course, On The Matter Of Race. Instead of sentences and paragraphs to convey my thoughts, poetry answered the home work questions posed." She concluded, "Launching the book in celebration of Harriet Tubman Day is extremely meaningful to me." Below is an introductory poem.

A portion of the proceeds from each book will be donated to The Harriet Tubman Monument until monies are raised for installation next to Tabernacle Baptist Church, Craven Street, Beaufort, SC.
