Tokina Company Ltd. is a member company of the Universal Electronics Groups of Hong Kong.
Until the year 2006, the company occupied the 2nd floor of Wing On Cheong Bldg., 5 Wing Lok Street, Hong Kong which, together with a number of other floors in the same building, is owned by the group. Due to the requirement of more space and, at the same time, the consideration to house all operations on one floor, the company has relocated its office to 17/F., Guangdong Finance Bldg., 88 Connaught Road West, Hong Kong since then.
Manufacturing activities of the group are mainly undertaken by another member company, Universal Electronics Industries, Ltd., which was established in the year 1969. The company specialized in the manufacture of flash lights and cameras. Its original manufacturing base was in Hong Kong. With the opening up of mainland China to the world, Universal Electronics moved in 1980 its operations to Shenzhen, one of the special economic zones in China right next to Hong Kong. Due to the need to further expand its production capacity, Universal Electronics set out to move further north to the city of Dongguan in the mid-nineties. The Company bought its own land and erected four factory buildings this time. The total manufacturing floor space is approximately 21,400 square meters. Dormitories complete with recreational facilities and all necessary amenities for workers are also provided on the same site. The move was completed in early 1997.
Universal Electronics has implemented vertical integration in its manufacture operations. A majority of the components & tools including plastic parts and toolings, metal pieces and dies, p.c. board assemblies, flash tubes and inverters (the central components for flash lights), etc. are all produced by sub-factories within the same organization. With such an arrangement, the company has been able to exercise the strictest control over quality and offer greater flexibility in meeting the needs of customers.
Photographic lighting equipment, including studio flashes and a full line of accessories for the professionals and several series of electronic flash guns for the amateurs/semi-professionals, is the major product line of Universal Electronics. Because of its close and long time association with the photographic industry, the company also manufactures a wide range of related products like light boxes, back-lit photo frames, slide viewers, cameras, etc. And, utilizing its expertise and know-how in flash light technology, Universal Electronics has also developed different kinds of general purpose strobe lights and signal flash lights for various applications. Over 99% of these products are exported to almost all four corners of the world. Tokina Company is the marketing arm of the group responsible for all overseas marketing activities for such products.
Through years of hard work and constant improvement to our products, we have been able to establish good acceptance for our products in various countries including the U.S.A., U.K., Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Holland, Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, Indonesia, etc. The requirement for lighting in digital imaging is even higher than in conventional photography, particularly in the professional area. We will continue to do our very best and are committed to develop even higher quality lighting equipment, in terms of both performance and reliability, to bring about even greater satisfaction to users of our products.
