Introduction of Tibetan furniture
Not all of the Tibetans have furniture in the past.Only the rich and the noble have their own furniture.The quantity of Tibetan old furniture is very small. Except the rich,Tibetan rarely use furniture in the past, so the existing Tibetan old furniture'quantity is very small. Most of the old Tibetan furniture is found in the temple, and generally was made of pine and the Himalayas cork pine. The main features of Tibetan furniture is that a large area of their surfaces will be painted and carved by hand with decorative pattern.

Tibetan Cabinet/chest is the most common and useful of Tibetan Furniture . Tibetan cabinet's structure is simple, but the specifications are of different sizes, used for storing all sorts of things, from food to religious use and so on. The size and use is a bit similar with container like our practical chest of drawers. The difference is that hidden by the middle to open cabinet doors. Both of the doors is of pivot structure.The doors are inserted into the hidden concave mouth, which make the door flexible to close and open.Inside of cabinet is divided into parts by a shelf baord. The bottom of the cabinet is usually three long and narrow drawers. This is a typical Tibetan cabinet.The cabinets are painted with flowers and animals,Because Tibetans love the nature.

Tibetan table appears earlier in Tibetan Furniture. It has all kinds of shape and structure,and you can find them in the temples and rich people'house in the past.Some of Tibetan tables only used for dinner, tea; some are used for religious ceremonies; Some tables are also collapsible, easy to carry.

Dragons and other mythical animals, leaves, totem, bamboo are always the theme of Tibetan craftsmen. Tibetan box/trunk, probably originated in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. Tibetan box/trunk is a kind of furniture which emerged early and was later replaced by the Tibetan cabinet. Some Tibetan painted box is painted directly on the wood; some of them put a layer of linen on the wood, then make oil painting on linen ; some of them also cover a layer of putty on the linen, so that paint will not drop off, which is a bit similar with oil painting portraits. It worths mentioning that the paint pigment that Tibetan artisans use is natural mineral great pigments,which can keep the color durable and stay bright and beautiful for a long time.Outside the box is wrapped in leather made from animal skin.
