New York, NY - New Yorkers have a reason to rejoice because the exciting news is Rainbow Fashion Week (RFW) returns to New York for 8 days from June 19 to June 26, 2015. The celebration, an official New York City Pre-Pride event, will be hosting its latest series of trend-savvy Queer Fashion Shows.
According to RFW Founder and CEO E. Jaguar Beckford, these “are not average fashion shows’ but rather an edgy, accessible and future-focused way of celebrating the “Art” of Fashion.The Executive Producer JagandCo hails this move and says; “the main benefit of Rainbow Fashion Week is to bring Queer-friendly and Queer professionals “out of the closet” and open the doors of opportunities tonot only fashion designers but models, MUA’s, stylist and other behind the scene talents. This will ultimately ensure their inclusion into the creative pool of New York’s Fashion Capital.
The concept of Rainbow Fashion Week started in 2013 and launched in 2014 with an intention to increase the access and inclusion for Queer fashion designers, models, and other supportive talents into the New York’s creative pool. Last year’s inaugural event was recognized by Mayor Bill DeBlasio as an “Official Annual New York City Pre-Pride Event.” The sponsors of the event include Refinery Hotel, Monarch, Shadowboxers, Empire Beauty School, Qwear, Playout, Sinister Apple, iCUNetwork, DoloHustle, StudFitNation, Transparent Styles, Divine Eloquence,Crookid Mindz, Gap, Izod, Ride Away, JagandCo, Puma, I’m 2 Sexy for MS, Nkredible Films and Housing Works to name a few.
Rainbow Fashion Week's schedule will consist of 12 Fashion Shows; QUEER KIDS NEXT DOOR and RAINBOW PETSan in-store installation sponsored by the West Elm in Chelsea. RAINBOW TOTSa glow in the dark spectacular experience sponsored by Northern Lights Tie Dye Co.INSIDE THE CELEBRITY CLOSET with Stylist “EStylz” bringing us a Ken & Barbie Inspired event that addresses body dysmorphia sponsored by XL. PHOTOVIEWS a live erotic fashion event. PAINTED FACES MUA’s Anthony Jones and Ketta Vaughn dish out glamour for our “body beautiful, face beat” trans community and beyond. RFW GAY FILM FEST short films that highlight and discuss the fashion issues regarding self-identification. Finally, URBAN K’NIGHT’S celebrating with our queer community Across the Hudson sponsored by the City of Newark NJ. Each show will highlight inter-seasonal collections of Resort and Cruise still suitable for Spring and Summer seasons and for Pre-Fall seasons of Autumn and Winter They will also feature pop-up shows by “ProvokeCulture” and “Memories out of the Box” as well as official after-parties.
These organizers have taken all the right steps to make sure that each event will have a social component attached to it because the aim is to support, among others, anti-bullying, domestic violence, same sex marriage, and trans-justice.
The event will be kicking off on June 19th with “Fashion for the Cure” Fashion Show and the presentment of “Top New Media Moguls,” award to the First Lady of New York and will also include appearances by Gay Activist/Actor Omar Sharif, Jr., of GLAAD. June 20 will be the day that leads into the international affiliates with the House of JagandCo sponsored by BLING Au where, 4 queer designers will be hitting the RFW runway.
